Success with Sun Life Long-Term Disability Denial

We helped a client suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome overcome a short-term and long-term disability denial by Sun Life. In one case, our client suffered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Sun Life denied the long-term disability claim after initially approving, but later terminating, short-term disability. Sun Life conducted a detailed background investigation of our client, yielding nothing material to a disability review, but upon which it based a benefit termination. We attended an Independent Medical Examination Sun Life requested with our client to document the process. Documenting everything about the process, and our client describing falling asleep in the examination room, we persuaded Sun Life to pay the claim.

Sun Life denied our client’s claim for long-term disability insurance following a sudden cardiac death, asserting the client’s pre-existing heart disease excluded the claim from coverage. With considerable digging into medical causation and close work with the client’s doctors, we persuaded Sun Life the sudden cardiac death was not at all related to the heart disease, removing the pre-existing condition exclusion from the claim.
